I've owned this model microwave for over a year and had NO PROBLEMS !!

It cooks evenly; and this model is feature-laden.In particular, the "delay start" is great for programming a time for one's food to begin cooking ... plus the usual settings (defrost, various cook by item buttons).

GE's products are great, tho I wouldn't necessarily purchase low end items (wouldn't do that with any microwave.)

Magic Chef 1.3cf 1000W S-Steel Microwave ( MCD1311ST ) Review

Bought this at a local store for a little less than the Amazon price.

It heats food well, but also gets the plates hot, which my previous microwave didn't. If the food needs a lot of heating, the plate will get uncomfortably hot.

It defrosts very poorly. It takes over twice as long to defrost a bagel compared to my previous Panasonic.

Maytag : Over-The-Range Microwave Oven Review

I purchased this microwave just over a month ago from one of the larger home improvement stores.My condo is smallish, so I decided to go with this less expensive model.It worked fine the first few times I used it, but after running it for more than 4 minutes at a time, it would shut off completely.The display would not even light up.The power would eventually return after about a half hour or so.

As it is still covered under the manufacturer's warranty, I was able to arrange for free service through Maytag's website.The technician just left and told me that the problem was "poor design."Apparently, there isn't enough cooling for some of the internal parts when the microwave is being run for more than a few minutes.To remedy the situation, he suggested that whenever I had the oven on for an "extended" amount of time, I should turn the vent fan on high so that the internal parts can remain cool.The technician said that this was a problem with many brands of over the range microwaves in this price range including LG, Kenmore, etc.He did say that GE was likely the best brand to buy.

As I spent a significant amount of money and effort between the initial purchase and having it installed, I will keep the oven and just remember to run it with the vent fan on.It works fine otherwise.

Update: 1 Year Later

After the initial service call, the original problem of the microwave overheating and shutting off after about 4 minutes of use continued regardless of whether or not the fan was turned on.

Just before the 1 year warranty expired, I decided to try and have it serviced one more time.The service person determined that the problem was improper installation.I helped him pull down the microwave and then he was able to move the fan housing cover into the proper position for external venting, the instructions of which were actually printed on a sticker right next to the housing cover.Go figure!

I'm upgrading my rating on this because the microwave oven has been working perfectly since then.I can recommend it without reservation, but just make sure it's installed correctly.

GE Cafe™ 2.0 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven Review

There are two serious design flaws in this unit, and GE won't own either of them.First, the metal handle on the microwave gets really hot when you have things cooking on the stove, and I mean you-need-a-potholder-to-open hot.Secondly, and much more problematic, the touchscreen can't handle heat and/or moisture and shorts out.You would think an appliance designed to be installed "over the range" might actually be able to function in this environment.(It's actually installed over the matching GE Cafe gas range, so compatibility should not be a problem.)

Our first touchpad fried in less than two weeks and the store gave us a replacement microwave without complaint. Had to install it myself -- again.Then the touchscreen shorted again a few months later, but after waiting for days for a service call, it started working again when the tech arrived.He refused to do anything, since it was working fine at that time.But of course, it has shorted out once again.

If GE would acknowledge that something is wrong in the design and provide an upgraded touchpad,that would be fine.But I suspect that they plan to keep replacing the touchpads until we run out of our extended warranty and then we'll be left high and dry.

Don't think I'll buy anything from GE again.

Orka Personal Silicone Steamer Review

I few months ago I started using the Ziploc Zip and Steam bags. They worked great to quickly steam veggies, but I hated how you just throw them away after a use. (I even re-used the bags sometimes, but you could only do once or twice before they were too dirty or warped). I stumbled upon this product and am so glad I did. It's a permanent version of the zip'n'steam bags. It seems even more powerful though. So far I've done frozen asparagus and 2 minutes wasn't quite enough, but three was a little much. I would do 2 and a half for frozen asparagus next time. Same with frozen green beans. So far, I've only done frozen veggies as that's what I've had on hand, and while it works well, you get a pool of water in the product. No big deal, I just pour that away.

I think it will work even better with fresh veggies, I imagine with those there is no pool of water.

As for another review saying the red item didn't look as pretty as in the pic....It's a steamer that you use in a microwave, not a piece of decor. It looks like what you'd expect it to lock like...red rubbery thing. It's functional, not gorgeous. I love that its dishwasher safe!!!

It is a bit smaller than I expected, though I though I will just purchase a larger one and then have options. This oval red one makes 1-2 servings of veggies. Half a bag of frozen veggies max. Good for a single person, not so good for families or couples who eat big portions of veggies (and if you're trying to lose weight, you want to eat big portions of steamed veggies and less of your other items, so you'll be better off with the larger size.)

The chart that comes with it with cooking times and recipes is very cool and helpful, but has a limited list of veggies, so you'll have to do some guesstimating. I realize this chart is more of a perk, so I won't fault the product for not listing all veggies. In the future, the company might want to expand that chart.

GE : JVM1850SMSS Microwave Review

I had been renting in an apartment community that went condo last year and had GE white appliances when I was renting that had no problems during my three years residing there.I bought a brand new refurbished condo in my community with new GE appliances and have had problems during the first year with some of the large kitchen appliances including this particular model microwave.After some research on line, I found similar defects reported from other individuals that bought this product.There are plastic brackets inside the handle that have melted off (and I checked all measurements from the stove and they meet specifications)and then you have holes where the brackets were.Unsafe for one and when I had GE come to service it, they offered me another door, which is course the same exact door even though I know other GE models have different doors that fit a particular model.The door is being sent to my house and I will again have to take time off for GE to install and hope that the brackets will not melt once again.I'd recommend putting your money down on a well-reputed appliance other than GE.

Sanyo EM-S9515W Family Size Microwave Oven Review

Microwave heats well but features are primitive...there is no delay start option, even though the display panel has a timer label; this is apparently decorative, and does nothing, as confirmed by reviewing the manual and contacting the company.Also, selecting power level must be done by repeatedly pressing the power button to count down from 10, rather than using the number keypad, as on earlier models.This was disappointing. Buyers should download the manual and read it before purchasing this unit.

I am writing this to warn all of you cooks and bakers at home, that like me, prefer real commercial equipment in your kitchen.Anything less is just a toy.I had purchased the Waring Pro 1500 convection oven thinking this would be a quality convection oven to replace a Farberware convection oven that I have had for over 10 years and just plain wore out.I ordered the Waring Pro 1500 from a catalog/online store other than Amazon, I don't know if it is legal to say, but it does have the word Chef's in it.I was so excited to get it!I opened the box, set it up, and was so disappointed.It was made so poorly I was just sick.The stainless steel top was not smoothed out, the oven door was installed so crooked it scraped the metal off of the side of the controls, and it had been dropped or something before packing because the feet were up inside of the thing, and the top was bent down.The shipping packaging was fine, there was no broken packing and the box was fine.OK, so I sent that one back, got a replacement thanks to the wonderful customer service at the online store, and opened the second one, same thing!!I was so devastated, that I decided to give it a shot anyhow.While cooking with it, the door had such a bad seal that it just steamed out the front, sides and bottom.I was amazed that there could be such shoddy workmanship out there on what was being advertised as commercial quality.OK, so oven number two went back, and I tried one more, what the heck three strikes you are out right?Right!!Finally oven number three came and it was put together so much better, seal looked good, top and feet looked good, so I decided to give it a whirl.Once again, huge disappointment.The convection fan goes on and off with the burner coils.Thus not giving the cooking cycle a true convection.I called Waring customer service and it was confirmed by engineering that they designed the fan to come on and off with the coils.Bad design!It took longer to bake cookies in there than it would my regular oven, and then they were hard and dry.I rotisseried a chicken and it took over 1 and a half hours and when I cut it, the skin was soggy, not crisp, and it wasn't cooked all the way through after 90 minutes!The thing popped (sounded like it was going to blow up) every time it heated up because they riveted the rack holders in there so tight, also making it nearly impossible to go from racks to using baking trays.OK, that was it!!After extensive internet research, I finally found a convection oven that is truly a commercial oven made for residential use, and exchanged it with the wonderful catalog/online store mentioned before and got the Cadco Commercial (and I do mean Commercial) half size convection oven Model number OV-350 and have used it many times since it's arrival and absolutely love it!!I know it is twice the price, but as usual, you get what you pay for.There is a smaller size version of the Cadco/Broilking oven that is quarter size, for people that do not need to bake huge quantities like me, that is the same price as the Waring Pro.Please people, if you are at all a person that demands quality in your kitchen, do not waste your time on the Waring Pro, just skip right to the real commercial stuff and save yourself some major stress!!Thanks again to the wonderful customer service at the aforementioned catalong/online company for NOT making me be stuck with the worthless Waring PRO 1500!!Go for the Cadco!

We had a GE over-the-range microwave, which worked fine until the cheap plastic door handle cracked and broke.This was a serious problem, because you can't open the door when the handle breaks off.When we tried to replace the handle, we were told you can't just replace it, you have to replace the entire door assembly, which cost hundreds of dollars and requires a service call.So we bought a new microwave.The sales person persuaded us to get another GE and told us that our door handle problem was a fluke.Lo and behold, after only a few months, this door handle broke, too!Fortunately, this one is still under warranty, but it makes you wonder a) if the quality control is slipshod and b) if they insist on using a cheap, brittle plastic for the handle, why they can't design it to replace the el cheapo part without buying an entire new door.

Sharp R-1871 1.1-Cubic-Foot 850-Watt Over-the-Range Convection Microwave, White Review

This is our 3rd version of this same unit (1st one sold w. house...second burned out after 11 years of continuous use! This newest of this Sharp line is very good looking, beautiful Stainless throughout & larger (inside) then previous units...it has really simplified convection & mix cooking with help of it's internal computer. This is great for all of your cooking, especially cooking for 2, we never use the regular oven except for a large turkey (this unit will hold a 10# bird.) There was a problem with one of the large bolts that holds it on the back plate..did not line up correctly...that was a pain.Also shipping by UPS or FED EX ends up with a mutilated box & I'm sure damaged units (we lucked out no damage to unit- the unit is quite heavy 84# so I'm sure the carrier just "heaves" it - so if your box is badly damaged don't even open it - send it back for a new one) they should really be shipped using another source.

Emerson Stainless Steel 700 Watts Microwave Oven Model MW8781SB BLACK Review

I bought this product from a retail store (thank goodness). The 1st microwave stopped working within a month; I took it back and the retail store exchanged it for a new one off of the shelf. Unfortunately, the day the warranty wore off the thing broke. It looked like it was working, but it wasn't cooking anything.

...The unit is nice, but it has buttons for Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Side Dish, Dinner but there are absolutely no instructions on how to use them.The manual had no info.Called CS and spoke to a gentleman who had absolutely no idea how to use the buttons.No help at all.I called back and got another rep who said you need to press Breakfast one time for oatmeal - 2 times for beverage - Press Dinner 8 times for a baked potatoe....WHAT!!!!

OK so I'm just not going to be able to use those buttons.PERIOD!

But it does have some nice features.Such as the keep warm button - just put the plate in the microwave, push the "Keep Warm" button and it gives a bust of power every now and again to keep the food warm.Nice for the kids that can't seem to get home in time for supper.

It has an "Inverter Turbo Defrost" - put your item in - click how many pounds and that's it.Worked well in defrosting a pound of frozen fish.It actually came out thawed but not cooked, not even on the edges.

Over all a nice system, and I got it for $69 as a Gold Box sale!

This microwave has a smaller size so it does use too much space in the kitchen. But the glass tray is quite large for the size (more than 10"). Magic Chef 1.6 cu Over-the-Range Microwave Review

My 10 year old over the range Hotpoint microwave suddenly died. I needed a replacement. I came across this Magic Chef unit and couldn't believe the price: A replacement for $150? I ordered the unit and didn't expect that much. What I got is a great working microwave with features I didn't have on my old unit. It has more internal space and with he recessed turntable I can cook and defrost much large food items than before. The fan is extremely effective although it's quite noise on full, but so it was on the old unit as well. I have noticed that some of the details like hinges and such seems a little bit more flimsy than on the old unit. We'll see as the years go by and this unit is used several times a day to feed my four kids if it holds up. But the first couple of months has been a great experience, and I can replace this one twice without it costing more than some of the units I saw at the appliance store.

GE Profile : JES2251SJ 2.2 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave with Child Lockout and Extra Large Capacity Review

I am very disappointed at the poor reliability of this unit.Ours is less than a year old and has failed--now, when attempting to cook, the unit shuts off before the end of the programmed time.Even though the light comes on and the turntable turns, the unit does not heat food.Like others, I purchased this unit based on the recommendation in Consumer Reports; this recommendation didn't pan out.I tried to schedule warranty service and GE is making us wait a week to schedule and their frustrating telephone system does not provide information on where I can take it for service for faster turnaround (and didn't put me in touch with a live representative).

When the microwave oven worked, it worked fine.We replaced a Sharp unit with this one; though this unit has the advantage of a larger capacity, its controls are less intuitive.

Based on poor reliability and poor service, we're certainly not going to buy another GE microwave.We've had good success with GE refrigerators in the past; this is very disappointing.A quick search on the web now reveals that GE microwave ovens are not reliable--many others appear to have similar problems with the magnetrons.

Perhaps this is one reason why GE is looking to sell its appliance business...

Extra inches were added to newly rounded door for no good reason leaving less space between the bottom of the microwave and the top of the stove.This makes it difficult to maneuver tall pots and pans or to use a long spoon for stirring.This is potentially hazardous to the cook which in my opinion is a safety concern. GE needs to return to the earlier straight-edge design.

I read the review from another buyer and noticed there was no grill. Given the name of the Microwave containing "grill" I however ignored it and bought it anyway as I wanted a grill. There IS NO grill!
I believe this is a mistake from Amazon as it says nothing about grill on the package it arrived in. Since it is almost impossible to change things via Amazon I have kept it and it works fine.

I bought this for my new kitchen renovation.I was getting rid of the huge vent above the stove and wanted a nice place for a microwave that would vent.You can use it to vent up and out, or it can recycle the air and let it flow back in the room.I'm using it for the latter.The fan is very loud, I find, but not so bad that I wouldn't use it.The microwave is nice and has a lot of nice features on it like quick start (also known as Add 30 Seconds).I would recommend it.You probably won't find a better one for a price like this.

Orka Multi Steamer Review

I had the occasion to witness several members of my family use this item while visiting in France this summer. Everyone has had a vegetable garden for years so we were able to compare many kinds of vegies, from potatoes to leeks, beets, and a few others, whichnormally would take a very long time to cook in boiling water. Everything cooked much faster and retained the important vitamins that would otherwise be lost during the boiling process. It also prevents the house from heating too much.
I am enjoying my new purchase greatly, not to forget that it isdishwasher safe as well. At this time I have not yet used the top tray. I sometimes also use it as a simple strainer to wash fresh fruit or vegetables and let it sit in its base while draining, and for storage in the fridge since it has a convenient lid.
I find this product totally awsome and practical.
