Sharp Microwave Warming Drawer Review

Sharp Microwave Warming DrawerWe installed Sharp model KB6524 in June 2009 during a kitchen remodel. Every appliance in our kitchen is new and this particular appliance is my favorite due to the uniqueness and convenience of this model. This microwave has exceeded our expectations in every way. One of the reasons we bought this microwave was that we needed a microwave that would fit under the countertop so our kids could reach it. It is also nice that the door slides open and I can reach down to lift out the food instead of having to reach up at face level and lift food out and down. I liked the unique concept of a drawer that pulls open instead of a door that pops open. I was a little concerned about reviews on earlier models that the auto open and close function on this microwave has a tendency to break. However, it seems that Sharp decided to manufacture this one so it closes with a button or by pushing or pulling on it to eliminate that problem. I was also concerned that it didn't have a piece in it that rotates the food. So, we were surprised to find that none of the food we have cooked has hotspots (note: I only use my microwave for reheating...not cooking). I LOVE this microwave. I had considered purchasing the 30" but decided that it was unlikely that I would need to put a dish in the microwave that was bigger than 24". So far, this has been the perfect size. It is even tall enough that I can put my portable mug in it to heat up my tea. Also, my lovely daughter did not know that you can't put metal in the microwave. She put her fork in with her plate. Surprisingly, the microwave did not arch. We checked the manual and it said you can even use aluminum foil to cover portions of meat. Not sure how they do it, but I'm not likely to try it. The microwave seems fine after the fork episode. This microwave also has programmable features such as softening ice cream. It asks what size of ice cream then sets the time as appropriate. It's a nice feature but I'm not usually softening a whole tub of ice cream. Just a portion of a tub. One other feature I use frequently, pushing the power button after closing the drawer will turn on the microwave in one minute increments. As an example, pushing the button 3 times will equate to 3 minutes. This is a pricey microwave but has been well worth the expense in our experience. I highly recommend this microwave!

Oster OGG61403 1-2/5-Cubic-Feet Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel Review

Oster OGG61403 1-2/5-Cubic-Feet Microwave Oven, Stainless SteelCurrently this Amazon page is lacking in some details about this unit, most notably that it is a 1200 WATT unit, not 1100 WATTs like most 1.4 cu.ft. units. So that's pretty sweet, right?

Other specs from other sources:

The Oster digital microwave oven has 1200 watts of total cooking power and 10 variable power levels for customized cooking. The digital microwave oven even comes with a programmable child lock that prevents unsupervised use.
* 10 variable power levels for customized cooking
* 9 convenient cooking functions for easy, one touch cooking
* Programmable child lock prevents unsupervised operation
* 1200 watts
* Model OGG61403

Note that this model does not have a "sensor" feature like some more expensive models have.Nevertheless, this is actually a slight better-than-normal feature-set for this price range/class (sub-$100) of microwave. What impresses me is the extra wattage, and that I like the idea of having a handle. Many times people complain that they get units with those big buttons that you have to press to open the door, but don't work well. Our GE could be like that sometimes - the button would stick.

It does bug me a little that there isn't more information about this unit on the web, but maybe that is because it is new-ish?Time will tell.Oster has usually been good for us - reliable and straight-forward appliances at a reasonable price.

Sharp 900-Watt 0.9 Cubic Foot Convection Microwaves Review

Sharp 900-Watt 0.9 Cubic Foot Convection MicrowavesGiven the tremendous functionality, and especially for the price, I cannot in good conscience give this oven less than 5 full stars. However, that is definitely not to imply that it is perfect.Nothing is, and this is no exception. So, while others here have done a fine job of highlighting the positive aspects (which is in fact why I bought one, too), I will try to provide a more balanced perspective. First, though, a quick re-cap of those highlights.Yes, this oven really does do the job of three: a conventional microwave, a convection unit, and a toaster oven.In fact, that does not do it justice because it does even more than that. You cannot, for example, grill a burger in any of those types, but you can in this.Especially for a small kitchen, this is phenomenally useful. In just a couple of weeks, I've already become reliant on its non-microwave functions for a variety of things, from roast chicken to frozen French fries, both of which come out better than in my conventional oven and in much less than half the time. And cleanup has not been an issue.

Still, there are flaws.Others have noted the wobbly turntable and difficult to read LCD display, and this is true - but I think there are more serious ones.I'll start with build quality since that was the first one I encountered.I've unfortunately had a chance to explore this in-depth, thanks to a broken fan assembly in mine. This was not shipping damage, either, but a manufacturing defect. In checking out the problem, I was able to examine things on the inside, it was clear that the unit is built to a very tight price point. There is an abundance of crimped sheet metal, a minimum number of screws, and cheap plastic snap-ins securing (barely) too many of the vital components.I'll also note that Consumer Reports has been reporting failure rates for Sharp built-in microwaves (the only variety they track reliability in) many times that of the other brands. That said, this unit replaced a Sharp countertop microwave which was still going strong at 13 years.Another weak point - this time of the design - is the ratio of exterior to interior space. In other words, the cavity is quite small for the amount of space the oven takes up, even compared to other convection units. In fact, my counter can just barely accommodate its depth. This is likely partially the result of its `economical' design. Also related to that, no doubt, is the omission of a doneness sensor, which I would expect on any microwave at this price, convection or not. This sensor is what allows a microwave to automatically reheat dishes, and shut off when it detects, through the amount of steam given off, that a dish is done heating.Instead, we are given reheat presets, which are never adequate (unless maybe you weigh your food first and configure it just right on the plate).

However, not all the preset programs are useless. In fact, much to my surprise, some are invaluable.I expected that all the co-called `Compu-` settings were simple time presets, but this is not the case. Many of these are fairly complex cooking routines, sometimes involving all three methods in various sequences. For example, the Compu-Roast 1 program will cook a darn good roast chicken automatically, using microwave, convection, and even the upper grill for browning near the end.The hamburger Compu-Grill program works similarly well, though I believe with just the 2 grills.(It is not always possible to tell what cooking mode is being used). These programs make it simple for even a mediocre cook like myself to begin using the oven instantly and with good results. And it prevents it from becoming merely an overpriced microwave (like my mother's KitchenAid has: it has convection and an upper grill, too, but no programs, so they remain unused after 2 years).Nonetheless, the presence of such helpful programs does not preclude it having a doneness sensor which is virtually a standard feature these days.Ideally, it would also have a linear power supply like the Panasonics do, allowing truly low-power microwaving, rather than simply cycling full power on and off to simulate low power operation. But not many other manufacturers do this, and that may be expecting too much. Finally, beware that this oven will draw more current than a comparably-sized microwave-only unit: up to 13 amps. This can tax a typical 15 amp household circuit if anything else is plugged in.Add a toaster, for example, and you will trip a breaker (I have).

To summarize, while the build quality is a concern, very few ovens I am aware of offer as much functionality to bake, roast, microwave and grill - and fewer still offer preset programs making all that flexibility readily accessible.None do it for so low a price. In fact, of the few other countertop convection microwaves I could find, nearly all were over three hundred dollars actual selling price. That makes this unique oven a bargain in several ways.

LG Over The Range Warming Lamp Microwaves Review

LG Over The Range Warming Lamp MicrowavesI was tentative at first with the idea of locating a microwave over a cooktop but wanted to give it a try and gain the additional counter space in the kitchen. I am glad I went with an over the cooktop model as it is very convenient to use even while operating the cooktop at the same time.

Having the controls along the bottom makes it easy to see which button I am pushing and to monitor the cooking time. The microwave has been great for heating casserole dishes as it can easily accommodate a large rectangular glass dish which is very rare. It also move the dish back and forth which makes for unusually even cooking, even better than a standard microwave with a carousel for rotating the food.

The under the unit light works well and the fan with its 3 speeds is also both efficient and not terribly loud. What is noisy is the magnetron tube operation which vibrates a shield which is held on only with tape. I had a technician come out and that is when I saw how the poor design of the shielding caused it to vibrate and rattle quite loudly at times. It is surprising that an otherwise excellent design should suffer from this one oversight on the part of the LG engineers.

The stainless finish is also very good and easier to keep clean than my other stainless appliances. With the microwave in a high visibility location it is nice that it is so easy to keep looking like new even with heavy use.

Overall I would buy this unit again as the benefits of the controls at the bottom and the dual action food movement mechanism compensate for the noisy operation of the unit. There are no other microwave ovens from other manufacturers that have the combination of features present in this LG. The over the counter units from GE and others look like very little thought was put into their design and they are hasty conversions of counter top models.

Product Description:
Perfect for freeing up counter space, this over-the-range microwave oven supplies 1100 watts of power and a sophisticated look that will nicely compliment any kitchen decor. Its spacious 2-cubic-foot interior contains a Glide & Spin sliding tray and turntable combination that moves side to side and spins to ensure evenly cooked food. The sliding tray works best for large casserole dishes up to 15 inches long, and the tray and turntable can accommodate menu items up to 12 inches. In addition, the oven's intelligent system takes away the guesswork when cooking meals. Choose from seven sensor-cook options: baked potato, fresh vegetable, frozen vegetable, canned vegetable, casserole, rice, and frozen entre. Humidity-sensing technology determines when food has fully cooked and automatically turns off the microwave. There's also a kid's menu that includes mac-and-cheese, hot dog, and chicken nugget. Best of all, the innovative appliance provides a warming lamp that maintains heat levels at 200, 170, 140, and 100 degrees F for a period of 90 minutes or less, so food stays warm until it's ready to be served.
Thoughtfully designed, the microwave oven also offers 10 power levels; auto, time, and quick defrost; sensor reheat; add 30 seconds; more/less control; and a popcorn key; as well as hold warm and a low-wattage melt/soften setting for making hard butter soft or for melting chocolate without boiling or scorching. In addition, the unit's 300-CFM (cubic foot per minute) exhaust system with a hidden vent reduces smoke and food odors caused by cooking. Other highlights include a horizontal keypad, a two-line digital display, a clock with auto time set, a kitchen timer, a cooking-complete reminder, a halogen cooktop light, a night light, and a child lock for safety. Accessories include a recirculating charcoal filter and a defrost pan. The microwave oven measures 15-5/8 by 29-15/16 by 16-7/16 inches and carries a one-year parts-and-labor warranty with a 10-year limited warranty on the magnetron.

WaveBox Original Portable AC/DC Microwave Review

WaveBox Original Portable AC/DC MicrowaveI have owned my Wavebox since it first became available late 2008.I love this thing but the cigarette lighter cable melted a few weeks later. So, we got in touch with customer service and they said they'd send a new cable right away. It's March 2009 (5 months later) and I still have not received the cable.I have been using the battery clamp in the mean time, with faster heating times so it's been great.I use the microwave every weekday for lunch.Just last week, as my food was cooking, smoke began bellowing out of the cooling fans and it smelled like a circuit board was melting. The unit still works but the amount of smoke it belches out is alarming.Customer service has been contacted once again. This time they have responded better and say a brand new unit is on the way.I hope it's true, they really seem like they want to stand behind their product and it seems so well built to me.Hopefully mine was just a fluke since I can't seem to find any information online of other people's units failing.

04-24-2009
Update: after waiting and complaining via email we got a response saying how sorry they are and it's just Tim Frank and his wife trying to make this product happen. They are standing behind the product and really wanting to make things right.I received my brand new wavebox and it works great. It actually works better now that the cooking "rack" is porcelain, allowing a more uniform heating. As a side note, I took my first unit apart and was impressed with the construction of the unit.Hoping that the new unit will provide me with many more hot lunches.I'm trying to change my rating to a higher one but apparently cannot with Amazon.

GE Profile : PEB1590SMSS 1.5 Cu. Ft. Convection Microwave Oven - Stainless SteelWhile I have found no problems with the microwave portion of this oven, the convection portion is an entirely different matter safety wise. The outside of the cabinet gets HOT.I mean REALLY HOT.I called GE and the CSR tried to assure me that the oven was operating within "reasonable" safety limits. When I pressured her to elaborate on GE's definition of what "reasonable" is, she stated that the outsides of the oven could reach temperatures ranging between 150 and 212 degrees! General Electric PEM31SM SS 1.0 Cu.Ft. GE Profile Spacemaker Microwave Oven Review

General Electric PEM31SM SS 1.0 Cu.Ft. GE Profile Spacemaker Microwave Oven12 1/2 months into owning this microwave (which by the way I loved), I was cleaning it with a wet paper towel when pieces of the white interior started coming off of the top. I've never seen this happen before. Called their customer service and was told that it's actually paint and they would be happy to sell me some paint so I could paint the inside of the microwave myself. Wow, that's great customer service. I'm not sure what upset me more, telling me to buy the paint or telling me to paint it myself. Microwave lasted another 9 months before the magnetron blew (it looked like a nuclear bomb went off inside of the microwave...really scared us). I was assured that they would fix it but it would cost me upwards of $119 for labor, etc. Obviously I'm not getting it fixed. My last GE microwave lasted me around 15 years. I wasn't expecting this one to last as long (they don't make things to last anymore) but I certainly expected a lot more than 2 years.

Sharp Half Pint Microwave Oven Review

Sharp Half Pint Microwave OvenI have had a sharp half pint for years and it has delivered service without fail.Just recently the door spring broke so I went in search of a reploacement. The Half Pint size fits my limited kitchen space to a T so I went back to that reliable product.I could not get a green replacement (matches my kitchen decor) so I opted for a black one.Still works wonderfully. My only issue is that the black one does not have a viewing window in the door like the green one.I never realized how much I used that viewer until it was gone.Otherwise the product is more than satisfactory.

Panasonic 2-Cubic Foot 1100-Watt Oven Review

Panasonic 2-Cubic Foot 1100-Watt OvenInstall: Item is actually alot lighter than i had thought. Im a average size guy - 6'2 228lbs.. and picked up/mounted it no problem. The directions were clear, and precise. While i do appreciate the template, it was obsolete as im fairly sure my house was NOT built to code.. OF COURSE. i had to get creative with mounting it.
If you use the template instructions, its easy.. but even if you cant - as long as you understand the general idea of "mounting heavy item needs screws into studs" you should be fine. After i mounted the bracket, i cut the exsisting wires that went to the previous fan/light and then connected my own wire set. I fished that up thru a hole i bored in the back of the cabinet and pulled it thru to the cabinet above the stove. Wired it up to a box/socket, placed micro on bracket, lead power cord up to socket and BAMO! we have a mounted, powered microwave.

Looks: Beautiful. It wasnt even mounted when friends had said it was a very nice looking unit. (hey - we are remodeling our kitch on a budget.. )

Functions: I am blown away. the description on line was an understatement. TURBO FAN???? light, and NIGHT LIGHT DIMMER, and i absolutely LOVE the dial. u want a to control the minutes - no problem.. u wanna kick it up and jump ahead to advance minutes or pounds? just spin the dial faster and it will pull it up. VERY easy and i love the push button idea of it. u dont want the dial sticking out - push it in and it will hide away.

Other functions and space: wow- it came with a slide in rack??? i can microwave a whole boat load of stuff. I could literally stick 2 of our old microwaves inside the cooking area of this bad boy..

Inverter turbo defrost: just that.. i mean the first time i saw this in action was at a friends house. 1lb of meat perfectly defrosted in about 3 minutes??? wow.. AND i LOVEEEE that when meat is half way done defrosting, it will BEEP to notify u that u need to flip it over.

Sound: not too bad at all. alot quieter than our other microwave.. the turbo speed fan is kinda loud, but if u need to evacuate smoke from the area - its your best friend.

Display: easy to read, bright.

There were no reviews when i had purchased this item.. i knew it was coming because i had called Panasonic and asked why they sold similar items in canada but not US.. the rep just stated "next month we will have a series coming out that will be incredible. if you can wait, we d make sure you enjoy the micro".
Also - what i had learned is microwaves cook at 75% power some of the time, and than switches to a significantly lower power rating.. this micro goes at 60%, 100% of the time.
Its just incredible!

Value: fantastic. go out and find a microwave that has as many features, that is over the range, and a rack, and everything else and tell me the price. u WILL NOT FIND IT NEAR THIS PRICE. GO BUY THIS UNIT!!!!

Kalorik MW 26146 Steam Microwave Oven with Real Convection Review

Kalorik MW 26146 Steam Microwave Oven with Real ConvectionI needed a new microwave and since I have limited space I liked that this oven served several purposes. I even waited a couple of months for it.I did try to find more info but found little on the internet and it wasn't available at a local store. My first impression when I opened it was how cheep it looked. The outside in mostly plastic.I worry each time I fill the water tank or empty the waste water tank that they will break and cost a fortune to replace.I haven't cleaned the steam generator yet but it requires decalcification every 20 uses andcompartment is opening required a screwdriver.Cleaning instructions also direct cleaning 9 holes with a soft cloth & vinegar and I can't find the holes referred to. When I opened the door it scraped (I think the parts were not smooth finished). The controls are not intuitive and I find them difficult. The cooking instruction take up 19 pages. When I used the microwave function there was a annoying rattling noise.I contacted customer service via email and after suggesting several obvious causes they went to the warehouse to check and found it to be normal. When you microwave most things you are hit with steam when you open the door. Also the power is low so things take longer.I don't use the other items as often as I thought I would. It is just easier to do these functions the standard way.The convection function doest seem to save time. The inside cavity is not large and many item I use to use in the microwave I can no long use.The window is not as clear as the picture indicates. I would return it if I could.I will never buy another item online that costs this much without an unlimited satisfaction guarantee including shipping costs.

Cuisinart CMW-200 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot Convection Microwave Oven with Grill Review

Cuisinart CMW-200 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot Convection Microwave Oven with GrillI live in a small downtown unit in San Francisco, so anything that takes up space has to earn it's living. This unit is now the only "oven" I use, and it's wonderful. I see many complain about how long it takes to "heat up," but that's a misunderstanding of using convection heat. Just put whatever you want to cook in the oven--cakes, breads, lasagna, etc.--and it will cook as the oven heats. Because of the convection, there are no "hot spots" and nothing will burn. The only adjustment is the cooking time, but that can be gauged with a little practice. Easy to clean, makes wonderful toast, pies, fresh breads and roast cuts of meat.... I don't know what I'd do without this. The microwave is very flexible and easy to use with many different choices on the control panel.

Sharp 1200-Watt 1.2-Cubic-Foot Microwaves Review

Sharp 1200-Watt 1.2-Cubic-Foot MicrowavesThis is a wonderful microwave oven that cooks things perfectly everytime (so far).It uses whats called "sensor cooking" so there is no need to guess about how long things should cook.If you want to reheat things from the fridge, just hit the sensor cook key, the oven starts automatically, the oven decides the amount of time needed and reheats it perfectly. No standing there wondering how long is long enough, no constantly having to waste time opening &uncovering to check if the food is ready. My experience with microwaves says things will be overcooked or undercooked everytime & you need to either stop it early or add extra time, NOT WITH THIS OVEN!!!it also has sensor settings for specific foods, such as frozen entrees, meats, rice, & veggies. Also easy to use, hit sensor and the number that corrosponds with the food you'll be cooking and you're good to go.Simple and easy.Say you use sensor cook to cook something that requiries turning over during the cooking cycle, no problem, the oven will stop, beep, the digital display will read "turn over." Most of the info you need is right there on the oven key panel so no need to keep the instruction book handy to continually check to see how to use this or that feature. The oven even has a help menu on the digital readout. While I haven't experienced no unpopped popcorn kernals, I can say the VERY little kernels remain unpopped. The oven even differentiates between the regular sized bags and the new snacked sized ones. This oven makes microwave cooking even faster because you don't waste time constantly checking the food for doneness. My local K-Mart sells this oven for $109, Walmart wants $99, so the Amazone.com price of $79 is definitely a bargin and with the free shipping, how can you not think this is one of the better purchases you'll ever make.

Sanyo EM-C6786V 1-Cubic-Foot Microwave Oven with Convection and Grill Review

Sanyo EM-C6786V 1-Cubic-Foot Microwave Oven with Convection and GrillI recently received my new Sanyo microwave and I could not wait to post a review on it!This is a truly sleek, good looking appliance that has finally broken the mold with the innovative design of its controls.Bye, bye to the traditional and confusing button keypads of other microwave ovens...I won't miss you. :)

As another reviewer already said, there is a scroll wheel (very much like an iPod control) on the inside. You have to open the door to access the scroll wheel, but this is hardly a problem. You simply open the door, put in your plate of food, set the desired function using the scroll wheel, shut the door and hit the Start/+1 minute button. If you have to interrupt cooking, press the Stop/Clear key once to stop the oven, pressing it twice will stop the oven and clear the settings.EASY!

I set the clock on this machine in less than 10 seconds using the scroll wheel. That has never happened to me before!I know it seems trivial, but with every microwave I have ever owned, I had to pull out the instruction manual to remind myself what combination of buttons I had to press JUST TO SET THE TIME.

Incidentally, the pictures of the oven provided by Amazon are not wholly accurate because it is not plugged in.The green tinted clock/timer is on the inside of the oven, but there is a clear, rectangular view finder on the door that allows the time to be clearly displayed while the door is closed. The pictures here make it look like a simple black tinted door with a few buttons on the side. Some might think you have to open the door in order to see the clock, but that is definitely not the case.

My father, who is physically handicaped (he has only the thumb and forefinger on his right hand and has severe vision impairment), loves this oven already because it is so simple to operate. He also likes the fact there is no door handle to pull at, just a simple press of a button, and the door will open. This, again, may seem trivial but try opening a microwave with semi-greasy hands while rushing around in the kitchen. You can open this baby with a knuckle or even the flat part of the back of your hand. When you combine this with the ease of the scroll wheel, this oven may be a wonderful option for those who have severe arthritis too.Just remember to read the instruction manual thoroughly to become acquainted with the functions and you will be scrolling your way through your favorite recipes in no time!

The unit offers four combination cooking settings: combination one (microwave and convection) for frozen entrees and casseroles, combination two (microwave and grill) for steaks, combination three (grill and microwave) for chicken, and combination four (grill and convection) for hamburgers.

I am so excited to start experimenting with this oven!I have only tried the convection option so far (apart from the microwave) and I was very pleased with the results. It took less than 10 minutes to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. The cherry on the top of all this was Amazon's excellent price. When I compared this model to others with similar features, the prices were REALLY out there!

I just hope the thrilled-about-this-purchase euphoria lasts a long, long time! :)

Haier MWM0701TB Compact 2/3-Cubic-Foot 700-Watt Microwave Oven, Black Review

Haier MWM0701TB Compact 2/3-Cubic-Foot 700-Watt Microwave Oven, BlackI bought this microwave because it was the cheapest one I could find. And while it does the job satisfactorily I wouldn't recommend it necessarily. For one, the inside is too small, some of my plates don't even fit in or if they do they are so big they touch the side of the walls and the plate doesn't spin round. Also, this microwave isn't very powerful, if the microwave dinner box says microwave for 5 mins, I have to do it for 10. Another con is when I use the microwave, I can't use my oven. For some reason when I try to use both at the same time, they both shut off.

There are better microwaves out there that you can get for not too much more money. This microwave doesn't completely suck but I know you can get better.

Haier MWM12001SCGSS 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot 1000-Watt Grill and Convection Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel Review

Haier MWM12001SCGSS 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot 1000-Watt Grill and Convection Microwave Oven, Stainless SteelFor a combo, micro/convection, oven, the price was very reasonable. The design is modern and, quite attractive, but it is way under-powered(1000W)compared to my previous microwave, which was Sharp Carousel (1500W). Which means, it will take more time to cook or re-heat things, e.g. a cold cup of water takes about 3 minutes to boil compared to 2 minutes in the Sharp. Also, the metal (very light weight) grate that came with for the convection cooking was broken (poor welding job) from the factory.

Sharp R-402JKT 1-2/5-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Microwave, Black Review

Sharp R-402JKT 1-2/5-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Microwave, BlackWe reciever this microwave quickly. My microwave died after 35 yrs. and I was so happy it arrived fast.It is easy to operate and the instructions are very easy to follow.I really like all the features and the pre-set settings are very accurate. The 4 defrost settings are a real treat to me.The demenions are accurate but I didn't realize the wall plug was large so this microwave sticks out 2 inches more in front beyond my shelf edge.My old microwave's plug laid flat against the wall.I am getting use to this and it in no way affects the performance of the product. If I had known it would take up another 2 inches in deepth beyond the listed deminsions I would have purchased a smaller unit so it would fit my space better.

Sharp R-308KK 1-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Microwave Oven, Black Review

Sharp R-308KK 1-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Microwave Oven, BlackThis Sharp microwave oven, with 1 c.f. of total capacity and about 0.8 c.f. of usable capacity (according to Consumer Reports), is a great performer. It heats food quickly and for the most part evenly. The turntable turns automatically and alternates between clockwise and counterclosewise turns. There's a lightbulb inside that lights up when you open the door or when the microwave is operating. The heat output is rated at 1100W, which is usually the power assumed by most microwave heating instructions on food packages - a great convenience.

There was a story I read a few years ago that looked into microwave oven safety, and Sharp came out ahead. So I feel confidend that this microwave oven, assembled in Thailand, should also be one of the safest.Of course, you should keep at least 7 inches away from the oven when its magnetron is generating microwaves, just to be totally safe. One guy complained about the "loud" door; yes, but it's designed to be safe.I'd never trade safety for a flimsy, "easier" door.

The LCD display is always backlit (in green), which is really nice, esp. if you, like I, use the LCD as a clock and also as a timer.(Clock is am-pm-agnostic 12-hour type, while timer has a maximum countdown of 99:99.)The Minute Plus feature is extremely convenience. The keys beep when you press them, but the beep and that "cooking finished" long beep can be turned off easily. You can also invoke a "safe" mode so that the buttons don't work, kind of like a "hold" feature on audio players -- great for families with kids who like to fiddle with appliances.

My only complaint is, like all Asian electronics companies, Sharp pays little attention to the user-friendliness of the unit. The keys all look the same and are about the same size. While they are responsive, sometimes you need to hunt for the keys you want to press. The End and Start keys, in particular, should have been made to stand out. Also, unlike many other Sharp models, this one requires you to press the Power button multiple times instead of just pressing a numeric button to specify a power level. Finally, the reheat/cook button works ridiculously complicated. All these anti-user features detract a full star from an otherwise really excellent appliance.

The all-black finish looks great and the oven fits well under most kitchen cabinets.I do recommend this oven despite the ergonomic issues mentioned above. For me, Sharp microwave ovens' reliability reputation, safety record and Minute Plus convenience are reason enough to recommend them highly.

Sharp : R520KST 2.0 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave Oven 1,200 Cooking Watts - Stainless Steel Review

Sharp : R520KST 2.0 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave Oven 1,200 Cooking Watts - Stainless SteelMarch 27, 2010 update. So far the Sharp has performed perfectly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A couple months back we needed to replace our GE microwave which died suddenly. We use the microwave daily so needed a replacement sooner rather than later.I planned on another GE since we have used all GE kitchen products for 30 years. Looked in Consumer Reports and Amazon.

Surprise!GE microwaves were a disaster according to customer reviews at both CR & Amazon. The CR top rated oven, a GE, had 26 of 38 reviews at or below 2 stars.Sears & Panosonic did not fair any better.

This Sharp was down the list on CR ratings but had great reviews.Sharp microwaves on Amazon had solid reviews. The appearance of this one was perfect for our kitchen and had large capacity. Found it at local Fry's; Ta-Da. (I don't know if this family could function w/o a microwave!).

We've had it for two + months now and it does everything it is supposed to do.Very pleased.Large turntable & capacity are major pluses.

I have no idea what is going on in the microwave indusdry; it seems like the ovens are failing at a far more rapid rate than before. I'm hoping Sharps buck the trend.

Panasonic NN-SD697S 1300-Watt 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot Stainless-Steel Microwave Oven Review

Panasonic NN-SD697S 1300-Watt 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot Stainless-Steel Microwave OvenI just bought the Panasonic NNSD697S Stainless Steel 1300 Watt Microwave Oven, for $100 at Costco. I previously owned an 1,100 watt Panasonic microwave oven that lasted me for 8 years of excellent service before it stopped heating and then started smoking one day. So, I was pretty much pre-sold on the Panasonic brand.

However, this model disappoints me. The LED time display is dim and reads "All 8s"; it is hard to see at any angle other than direct-on. The time has to be entered using a pop-out dial, or by the "1 minute" button. You can't use the two methods with each other; either you use the dial or the 1-minute button. The more/less time button only works with pre-programmed cooking functions, either reducing or increasing the pre-determined cook time by 10%.

The dial adds time in increasingly larger increments; the more time that is entered, the more the time changes with each turn of the dial. At larger time amounts, over 5 minutes, you can only change the time by a minimum of 15 seconds at a time. Over 1 minute, the dial changes the time by no less than 10 seconds at a time. This is not precise enough for my liking. I would much prefer the old cheap plastic covered button press pad for entering exact times. I used to often use "99" seconds.

One advantage of this model is that, with 1,300 watts of power, it heats significantly faster than the 1,100 watt model I had previously. For example, it will boil 24 oz. of water in 4 min. 15 seconds (with a cover on the jar) whereas the 1,100 watt model took 6 mins. or more.

The light inside the microwave does not turn on when you open the door, which makes it very hard to monitor what is going on with the cooking/heating process. I consider this a major design flaw. The light in my previous oven did not burn out in over 8 years of heavy usage.

The door only opens to 90 degrees; it should be openable further in my case because I have the microwave sitting at an angle on the counter and opening the door all the way would allow me to put items in more easily.

This model is not customizable as my previous model was for such things as turning the beep on or off; it is always on, though fortunately it is not very loud.

If this model does not last as long as my previous one, I will not be sorry; I'm already anxious to try another model as my experience with this one really has not been positive. In fact, I hope it fails within Costco's return window policy so I can buy another one.

- has an "EZ-ON" feature which allows you to start cooking instantly with the press of this button
- has dedicated buttons for popcorn and hot dogs
- door opens on its own, there isn't another button that you need to press like on other microwaves for the door
- the price was exceptional and with Amazn's free shipping I defy anyone to find another retailer that can match their price
- comes with a 1-year warranty and if LG is anything like GE (I have no idea) they won't bat an eye if you call them for service even when the appliance is a few years old
- More/Less Arrows allow you to subtract or add time while the microwave is in operation
- tells you when to turn over food, when you're defrosting
- extra large cooking capacity, and with the wrack it nearly doubles in size
- 1100 watts of power

the Bad
- it is incredibly heavy and bulky (nearly 70 pounds), have at least 2 strong men who can lift it when you install it
- the door makes a loud clunking sound when it closes
- there isn't a "quick cook" button like GE had, the closest this has is EZ-On, however that automatically defaults to 30 seconds
- the unit doesn't constantly keep beeping to remind you that your food is ready
- sometimes foods tend to get slightly soggy when taken off the "hold warm" setting
- the rotation cannot be turned off if it is set to keep warm
- it's doing a number on my plastic dishes that are microwave safe, they're slightly bending, however since they're so inexpensive I do not mind too much

the Ugly
- it is a beast to clean/keep clean
- it is a fingerprint/dust magnet
- picks up streaks very quickly
- it can pick up scratches very, very easily

the Exceptional
- the Soften button allows you to soften butter, ice-cream, cream cheese and even frozen juice
- with the cooking sensors the microwave cooks everything to the perfect temp and then shuts off automatically, this is great for TV dinners
- with the Reheat button you can quickly heat up anything and the microwave will bring it to the perfect temp without any effort on your part
- dedicated defrost settings for vegetables, beef and chicken
- with the Hold Warm button I can now leave whatever I was cooking in it for up to 90 minutes and it will stay nice and hot, this'll save on power because I won't have to turn on the oven for this
- able to automatically turn on the Hold Warm feature to follow another cooking function
- EZ-On feature can be extended in 30 minute increments just by pressing it
- Custom Cook can be programmed to cook any single time you use the most often (my only complaint about this is you still need to press the Start/Enter button)

Things to Remember
- never use a brillo pad or abrasive sponge on this as it could scratch very easily
- although I don't know why you would want to, never turn the microwave oven on if nothing is inside it
- sometimes it makes slight crackling sounds as it's cooking, these are normal

If anyone has any suggestions on how to keep this looking perfect and nice and shiny and glossy please let me know. Right now I am using Mr. Clean Power Wipes on the outside, then I gently buff it with a dry paper towel to buff and shine it. But it's not very practical because it's a lot of work and lint, dust and fingerprints still seem to find a way all over the microwave no matter what I do or don't do.

**Update** I recently started using Fantastic Clean & Shine spray with a microfiber towel (on the outside door and on the inside-after I clean the inside with a sponge, as well) and it works very well. So far, this is the best product that I have found to keep it looking shiny and new (the outside mostly). Keep in mind there are different varieties of Fantastic Cleaner, you're going to want to get "Fantastic Clean & Shine" spray.

Overall this is a very useful item and one of the most used new appliances that I have purchased for my kitchen in ages.

Sharp R-426LS Family Size Countertop Microwave Review

Sharp R-426LS Family Size Countertop MicrowaveI owned this microwave for one and a half years. In that time I was most impressed with the sleek finish and large size.It does everything you would expect of a microwave (boil water, popcorn, reheat food, etc). The preset, by weight, settings are a little hit or miss, but all in all pretty good.Generally, I like to manually adjust the power level and this microwave does a great job with that. For instance, melting butter on power level one or two melts the butter without boiling or liquefying it.

My roommate took my first Sharp and I'm about to buy my second.I hope this helps.

Emerson .9 cu. ft. 900-Watt Microwave - Black Review

Emerson .9 cu. ft. 900-Watt Microwave - BlackI bought this good quality, easy to use, name brand microwave to replace a similar one from another manufacturer that finally died after more than a decade of daily use. Will this one last that long?I'd say, as long as the keypad survives (which is doubtful with daily use of the 30 second feature) this versatile, easy to program microwave will continue to be the quick little work-horse of the kitchen.Well written, easy to understand bi-lingual instructions are included and I was pleasantly surprised to get this much needed replacement delivered to me the following day without requesting (or paying for or being charged) any kind of special speedy delivery. Amazon.com, Target and this versatile little work-horse all get 5 stars in my book.
