Amana : AMC2206BAS 2.0 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave Oven - Stainless Steel Review

We purchased this item from a local appliance store on Feb 19, 2010. The salesperson praised the Whirlpool line over Sharp or GE which they didn't sell.The Whirlpool line has Magic Chef on the low end, then next up is Whirpool and Amana with Maytag their top of the line.He didn't think it was worth the extra $100.00 to buy the Maytag for the little extra quality or features and neither did we.We were replacing our less than three year old Panasonic that had a spin dial and inverter that went out and the parts were as much as a new microwave.

The first one of these microwaves we brought home we got out of the box and the control panel was hanging loose on the front.The holes on the side of the unit looked like they should have screws to hold the control panel in and they were missing. We called the store and took it back for an exchange when we were in that town next.On 2/24/10 we brought the second Amana microwave home.They opened, inspected and tested it before sending it home with us.The panel was a little loose and had no screws in it but we were comfortable using it.

On 3/6/10 the light inside of the microwave went out.We called in and the appliance store sent us out a bulb for free but we have to install it because it wasn't covered under warranty.To even change the bulb you have to have a speciality security screwdriver to open the case (which we happen to have).

3/22/10 - We received the bulb but hadn't installed it yet and went to warm up some breakfast and the microwave was asking us to set the clock.We set the clock, opened the microwave and the screen went dead. When we would open and shut the door the control panel would flash about 6 times but now has stopped even flashing.It was completely dead.We tried plugging it into a different circuit, and plug (along with other items that were plugged in and functioning) and nothing.We have called and will bring it back to the store again and they are going to give us our money toward another one of these which we will NOT buy or another microwave in the store.

Save yourself the hassle we have had and buy another brand. At least we have an appliance store that will take a lemon back.

Sharp R-1406 950-Watt 1-2/5-Cubic-Foot Over-the-Range Microwave, White Review

I bought this on Amazon to replace a Sharp microwave, which has served me well for several years. Based on the price, compared to other with similar features, this unit is the least expensive. I was also impressed with the comprehensive directions for installation. I am closer to being Tim (the toolman) Taylor than a professional at home improvements, so I followed the instructions with precision. The results were outstanding. Not only does it look GREAT where my old stove hood used to be, it passed my "popcorn" test, of which, I am particular. No scotching, full bag, satisfying and an extra plus, while I am beaming over my accomplishment, the beep sounds indicating the popcorn was finished, the display read "Enjoy". Am I ever! I have in my "digital locker",courtesy of Amazon, my own .pdf manual. What a great investment in money for the microwave and the time for installation of the unit.

Solidly built, looks great, came with lightbulbs for range light INSTALLED! No cons, but could have used some help with installing, as the manual recommends 2 people install, but I did manage nicely by myself. I would suggest an additional set of hands for final insertion, once preparations are complete. I have only owned this for a day, but, I wanted to tell my tale to give others an incentive, if they are on the edge, to jump at this opprotunity to snazz up the kitchen in a big way and for little out of pocket.

Panasonic wants like $300 for a comparable unit. I am pleased to pay 1/2 as much and get a quality unit such as this. You can even get this for $25 off before January 31st, free shipping (this dude is HEAVY!) and no tax, do the math, it is a steal!

Before buying this particular oven, I read as many product reviews as could be found.They were for a similar Hamilton Beach Oven but not this exact one.And many were quite negative.But it seemed to be just what I wanted.This would be my third countertop oven.The first one lasted over 25 years.The second one, only about 8 years.It arrived earlier than predicted, always a plus.I burned every single thing I put in it for the first week.Not the oven's fault.I'm laughing as I write this.It is so efficient and works so well and I forgot the times on the previous oven were due to it's "dying" process.So, didn't think to compensate for a "new" oven.Well, now I'm doing much better and things are marvelous from this little jewel.Cookies, main dishes, heating up sauces quickly, (I just moved, gave away my microwave and decided not to buy another), sandwiches, even toast from atisan breads are perfectly cooked.So all the burnt foods were obviously "operator error".

At first, I worried what oven ware would fit into it but no worries.I now have a very tall stack of things that will fit comfortably in this oven including several 12-inch glass baking dishes for pizza and cookies. I only had to buy cookie sheets as all the rest (bread pans, muffin tins, springform cake pan, angelfood cake pan, etc) all fit inside very nicely.And best of all, the really large and oversized items can be given away, taking up less storage space in a space-challenged apt.

I would buy this oven again and again.It's the best. Oh, yes, the "bell" rings at the completion of cooking times and I can hear it in the most distant places of this apt. We've had really hot weather this summer and I've so appreciated only having to heat the kitchen for very few minutes to cook meals then a very quick cool down afterwards.I've not even turned on the large stove/oven that is built in to this apt.And I don't plan to, either.This oven is all I need.Oh, yes, I've been using it since the end of July 2007 - slightly under a month and with daily usage.

I absolutely love this oven. I owned one nu wave oven before. But this oven is much better. It heats up much faster than nu wave oven. The second you turn it on, you can feel the heat.
Very solid see through glass bowl, much better than the cheap PC bowl that nu wave oven has. Health is a big issue we can not ignore. You always have the risk to take in polymerizer when using plastic as food containers. Although plastic is much cheaper to make than glass bowl. Be responsible to yourself and the loved ones you give this gift to.
Use it, love it and use it more. Highly recommend!!

At first glance this looks like quite an impressive microwave.I mean the bells and whistles alone!The thing is, it may not be safe to turn your back on this microwave.For one thing - before you use it - check to make sure that the charcoal filters that are supposedly installed are actually there!When I had a problem with my microwave (more on that later) I took the grease filters off to see how the charcoal filters were doing and there were none.Hmm - I'm sure Whirlpool would take care of that.
NOT!!!After all my warranty expired about 3 months ago so all they could do would be to refer me to someplace where I could replace them.But I said doesn't "re" mean that I'm doing something again - there were no filters in place to "RE" place.Sorry, outta luck, ma'am.

Ok, I know that my warranty expired about 3 months ago but maybe they could help me out with the crackling noise which ended up being some sort of electrical fire that was starting between the door and the inner frame.Good thing I didn't decide to go upstairs and bring down a load of wash.I may not have a kitchen.Sorry, outta luck, ma'am.

Well, it's been having this other problem.When I try to defrost foods on power level 3 the food starts to actually cook.(Forget about the laundry - this thing isn't letting me go anywhere).That problem's been there for awhile but I put up with it because - my, all those bells and whistles.Anything they could do for me?Well, they gave me a phone number for a repair shop and even told me that the minimum cost to take care of my problems would be $70.

Thanks - for nothing!

Oh, and here's the kicker.If they find that this is a manufacturing defect and issue a recall I'll be notified.But don't bother saving the repair receipt - as far as a refund - sorry, outta - well, you know how it goes.

First let me explain why I purchased the Sharp "OTC".We recently updated our kitchen and decided on a standard hood vent for above our stove.When it came time to replace our Microwave that had been sitting on the counter, we wanted one that was a "space saver", i.e. Over-the-counter. There were very few to choose from!So we decided to go with the sharp.

I have not been disappointed at all!I was originally concerned about the installation.It was a breeze. The sharp is a nice size microwave as well, not a compact.

As for the 5 stars I've given it, I have very little complaints.

Pros: Big & powerful. Fairly easy to install.Great price (as compaired to Over the Stove types).This model has many great features as well.Sensor reheating, presets for popcorn, frozen foods,..etc.

Cons: Sensor reheat over heats food just slightly.Some reheating features are slightly complicated to use, so I don't bother. (lots of button combinations that I can't seem to remember yet)

I bought this trim kit to work with a Panasonic NN-SD797S Prestige 1-3/5-Cubic-Foot 1250-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel. The installation instructions are not the greatest, but they do give you the minimum amount of information you need to install the oven successfully.

The frame is made from thick metal stock, so it should be durable. I thought the price seemed kind of high, but now that I have seen the trim kit in person, it is good quality and the price seems justified.

Having installed this item with the Panasonic NN-SD797S microwave oven, I would select them both again. [This trim kit is compatible with several other Panasonic microwave ovens - consult panasonic.com for more information.]

The actual dimensions of the face frame are 26 15/16" wide by 16 7/16" tall. This kit also includes some metal ducting that attaches to the microwave to channel the exhaust up the back of the microwave, across the top and out through the vent channels in the top of the face frame.

We purchased a new home several months ago and upgraded to a Whirlpool stainless steel appliance package and this microwave came in the set. I love the stainless steel and I think it really adds a lot to the appearance of our home. Not to mention that it's a lot easier to clean but you do have to clean it more often because every little fingerprint shows. You can clean it with any type of cleaner that's non-abrasive but stainless steel cleaner really works the best in my opinion. It has lots of options like quick select buttons for common foods like popcorn, pizza, baked potato, frozen entree and beverages. It also has a temperature holding option that comes in handy to keep food warm while you finish cooking other food. It cooks really fast so we always have to cook for less time than what the instructions say.The hood also has a three-speed fan that is very powerful, a light with three different settings and it gives you the option to turn on or off the turntable.I am very pleased with the microwave and look forward to using it for many years to come.

Per a Consumer Reports recommendation, I bought this model just over 6 months ago in the fall of 09.The turntable stopped working before December.Two repair calls later the motor and arm had been replaced (under warranty) and it worked again.That is until now when the same problem happened again.This time I noticed that the arm has black marks where it broke from the motor.Could this have caught on fire?I hope this is not a common problem but as I've used reviews on Amazon myself before purchasing, I thought I'd share my experience with this Microwave (Whirlpool Gold GT4175SPQ).

Never thought I'd buy a microwave on Amazon sight unseen. I'm completely satisified so far. Shipped in 2 days and arrived in perfect condition. Price was unbeatable!!! Installed in an opening that already had a hood microwave, so installation was easy.The features are very intuitive.I haven't open the operation manual yet and have been using it without any problems. The exhaust fan is quite powerful on high turbo speed. Better make sure the ductwork is strong..WOW!! It's a little noisy but on high its not too bad..low is very quiet. That much air moving in a duct will make noise. It's quiter than the old Kitchenaid hood and more powerful. I'm not sure about the new inverter technology.I mostly use the oven for defrosting, heating liquids and frozen meals. Works great so far. I don't think I will be cooking a chicken or roast in it??? The construction is solid for a microwave in this class.I was impressed on the build quality.The 16 year old Kitchenaid I replaced was of similiar construction.That one was built solid!!THe wife complained of finger marks on it.I think any surface will have that. Easily cleaned with a little dish soap.The finish was different than the photo.It was actually better looking than I thought.The stainless is shiny and the beige color on the buttons is nothing like the photo.It's a very suttle brown and doesn't stand out like the photo. I see how this oven earned the Good Housekeeping seal.It's constructed well and has great features and an intuitve menu. Very satisified.

Amana : AMC5143AAB 1.4 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave Oven with 1,100 Cooking Watts - Black Review

I've had this for a few months. I did not want to buy a Panasonic or a Sharp because of their high failure rate. I have other Amana appliances, so thought I would try this. So far it has worked out very well. It's been reliable and nothing has gone wrong with it.
One time I grabbed the glass tray that rotates and spun it a bit. This was enough to make the belt inside the microwave angry for a while. It made a bit of a bumping noise while it was turning the tray. The belt eventually righted itself as the microwave is no longer making the noise.
So don't rotate the tray at all while you are cleaning or anything. The unit still works just fine. Overall, I'm quite happy with it.
My former Sharp microwave had the display die within a few months. The Amana's is still working.

Microwave Oven Kitchen Cart - Beech Review

First, I think the price is fair and I got free shipping which made it even better. The instructions are very easy to follow, all the parts are labeled very well and the diagrams are clear enough so it's easy to put the item together.
In addition to the microwave, I realized I could put the toaster oven on the topmost shelf -it's sturdy enough - which freed up much needed counter space. It also has a drawer and 2 additional solidly built shelves AND an electrical socket. The last surprised me - I didn't recall seeing that in its specs but I like it. It's also a nice size such that it doesn't leave a smaller kitchen feeling cramped.
It's also quite nice looking the metallic parts are a brushed bronze color and the design on the side panel looks quite nice. It's much better than I thought it would be and overall I'm quite pleased with it.

GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 White Microwave Oven Review

We bought this model less than 3 years ago. It worked wonderfully and I'll have a very hard time finding one I like more, but it stopped heating food altogether, started making scary noises and we saw sparks... the manufacturer's warranty only provides a new magnetron tube but I have to pay for labor & related parts. I don't really want their new tube if it's only going to last 3 years, so I'm shopping again!

We have had this product for several months now and love it. Absolutley no problems with the microwave and it gets a lot of use. We have three kids 14, 11, and 9 and they use the popcorn settings all the time. We have used the drawer for pizza, baking cookies, mozzerella sticks and hot wings and all cooked fabulously. The pull out tray in the oven is super easy to keep clean. The finish is wearing a little but for the amount of use it gets I find it acceptable.

Electrolux : EI30MH55GS 30in Over-the-Range Microwave Oven - Stainless Steel Review

The gun in our 1400 watt GE over-the-range microwave gave out after just 3 1/2 years of use. SO, we decided to shell out the big bucks to buy this Electrolux. (It matches our new Electrolux range, which we actually love).

The problem is that there is no turn table in this unit and the "cook-2-perfection technology" is, in a word, *PITIFUL*! The way it cooks reminds me of the $100 units you give your kids to take to college.

Breakfast sandwiches (from the freezer) burn in the center and are still cold on at least one edge. Two hot dogs for one minute wrapped in a paper towel were nearly burnt on one end and just warm on the other.

I tried the "sensor cook" for a mini-bag of popcorn and it shut off after about 10 kernels popped! The "sensor cook" settings appear to be trainable so I think I can add more (or less) time, but it's not clear to me from the manual if the microwave remembers those, or if I have to add more time every time I use the "sensor cook" buttons. (If it can't remember the tweaks, what good is it?)

Electrolux must use this manual for a different microwave oven too, because it constantly references the turntable that I only wish it had.

We're *extremely* disappointed and I wish I could send it back. I guess I'll have to go find a 3rd party turntable, or cook everything on 60% power. Oh, and just so you know, "Electrolux is not responsible for any damage to the oven when accessories are used". Does that mean that aturntable invalidates the "FULL ONE YEAR WARRANTY"?

Note: This was purchased locally and with installation, not from Amazon.If you're handy, and have help, installation is typical of over-the-range microwaves. ["Made in USA from domestic and imported parts". January 2008?]

UPDATE: 1/28/2009
I called Electrolux to complain about how badly this microwave worked. (Invoking the one year warranty). They attempted to tell me that I needed to use the rack for cooking popcorn. (I could hear them quickly flipping through the user's manual). After I pointed out to them that page 17 of their manual specifically says "do not use the rack unless you are cooking multiple dishes" they sent a repair man.

Well, there are two rotating discs under the floor of the microwave, (supposedly to scatter the beam) and they were both rotating. It boiled a cup of water within 3 minutes. The company rep said that I might have better luck if I elevated food a couple of inches off of the bottom. But, the overall conclusion was: Works as expected. (Gee, thanks).

I tried a micro-go-round. It helped, a little. Very annoying to use however.

Finally, after 3 short months, sick of my food ending up both burned and frozen at the same time, I JUNKED the Electrolux and bought another GE. (Pssst - the repair guy said not to buy anything but GE! We also bought the extended warranty - not that it would have helped with the Electrolux!)

My conclusion: Electrolux microwaves are junk - a total waste of money. And, Electrolux was ABSOLUTELY NO HELP in resolving this problem. (Do you think I'll ever buy anything from them again?)

Emerson Microwave Oven Touch Control Black Review

Our last microwave was Emerson. Travis wanted something new, so he purchased "Sharp R-216LS Compact Size 0.8 Cu-Foot Microwave, Stainless Steel" (as well as "Nordic Ware 11-Inch Microwave Plate Cover"). The Sharp microwave was broken when it arrived and we were like ok, no more sharp. Returned it (UPS picked up), got a full refund and I went for this one though it didn't really call out to me. But see, this is Emerson, the company that made our old microwave that lasted for about ****3 years**** (till the buttons stopped working), and another reason I decided to get this is that the design reminded me of the microwave they use at the Japanese deli (Diamobu Japanese Deli Grocery 129 East 47th Street New York, NY 10017-2026 (212) 755-7380) and cafe (Cafe Zaiya [...] 18 East 41st Street New York, NY 10017-6395 (212) 779-0600 and one also on the second floor of Kinokuniya Bookstore [...] 1073 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10018 (212) 869-1700 but I forget if they even let you warm up your own food coz they have crazy good free table service lol). Well, we actually like the looks of it (this picture here is just not very flattering, I think) and it works great too. hope this review helped. ;)

Nordic Ware Microwave 2 Cavity Egg Poacher Review

I gave it 4 stars because:

(1) The instructions aren't on the product itself.

(2) I still prefer poached eggs on the stove.

However, perhaps this will help those of you struggling with why the darn thing won't work for YOU:

(1) Most instructions are written for 700 watt microwaves.

(2) Your microwave is likely not 700 watts if your results are bad. (Assuming you follow the other instructions re water, piercing the yolk, etc.)

(3) If you don't know the wattage of your oven, use this chart -- http://www.microwavecookingforone.com/Charts/Wattage.html -- and a cup of water to determine your wattage.

(4) Once you have your wattage, use this chart -- http://www.microwavecookingforone.com/Charts/ChartsFrom700.html -- and select YOUR oven's wattage then go to that chart to determine the correct cooking time for you.

For example, my oven is 1100 watts (I cheated and looked at the manual, but I should boil water now and again in case it changes):

Step 1 -- I go to the chart for 1100 watt conversion from 700 watt here -- http://www.microwavecookingforone.com/Charts/Chart1100.html.

Step 2 -- On the packaging AND on the company website for this product, they say that two eggs should be 1 minute 15 seconds.I look for 1 minute 15 seconds and find that I should actually cook them in MY microwave for 48 seconds.

Step 3 -- I follow the rest of the instructions (1/2 teaspoon of water per egg, pierce the yolk once, close the device firmly, leave it shut for at least 30 seconds or more afterward so the whites will cook completely), then voila, perfect poached eggs (except, yes, the bottoms are rounded).

My microwave has a rotating glass plate, so your results may vary unless you have one of those or you invest in one of the micro-go-round type products.I suspect that is what makes both eggs cook evenly.

Hope that helps.Heck, for $2.00, this little thing works like a charm.

I bought this bacon tray specifically to fit in my tiny microwave oven.As a user of other bacon trays throughout the years I am big fan of the way this tray and others like it cook the bacon and allow the grease to drain off.I am similarly pleased with the way this tray performs in that respect. However, that being said, the size of the tray is the biggest drawback.Regular pieces of bacon hang over the side (although they generally shrink through the cooking process).I recommend centercut bacon for this tray as it is generally a shorter cut of pork and fits more easily on the tray.The maximum amount of bacon you will be able to cook at a time is 6 pieces and that is really pushing it 4 pieces is better.This tray is suitable for small microwave ovens and small output.
